Spring Forward Into Eads!

Spring Forward Into Eads is our theme for our outreach efforts to Eads this spring. We will also have some in-reach focus as well. We will have two major events that we will make a push for this spring and they are: Celebrate the Resurrection and The Eads BBQ Fest. Listed below are the details of everything going on this spring. We would definitely appreciate your prayers as the Holy Spirit would bring us to your mind.

CELEBRATE THE RESURRECTION

Evangelism Sermon Series: Over the next four weeks Pastor Keith will be preaching a series on evangelism. Learn what Scripture says about why we should share the gospel, what is the gospel, and how we should share the good news of the gospel.

Adopt a neighborhood: We have chosen 6 neighborhoods for our NLC families to pray for.

Prayer Driving: Each NLC family will choose a time to go prayer driving through their adopted neighborhood between March 13th and April 3rd.

Door-to-door Outreach: On March 27th we will Spring Forward Into Eads and go door-to-door in our adopted neighborhoods. Please pray for God to go before us and bear much fruit.

Annie Armstrong Offering: We will be participating in this effort to support our North American Missions, which New Life Church is a part of this effort.

The Cross He Bore: This wonderful book depicts the last days of Christ from the garden to the cross. We were blessed to have read it last year and we will read it again this year starting on Sunday, March 21st. We will take a chapter a day and finish reading the book on Good Friday, April 2nd.

THE EADS BBQ FEST

Eads BBQ Fest: On Saturday, April 10th, NLC will participate in the BBQ festival at the Eads Civic Center. More details to come…

But For The Grace Of God...

Below is a portion of a letter that Pastor Mark Driscoll wrote to his congregation on what he discovered while assessing the damage in Haiti...

"The devastation there is more horrendous than you can possibly imagine. Within the first few hours on the ground to research the state of the church, we saw multiple collapsed churches with members’ decomposed bodies trapped inside; we saw multiple churches with the decomposed bodies of church members baking in the sun on the sidewalk outside of what used to be the church entrance; we saw a teenage boy shot in the head just feet away from a Christian seminary that was housing 5,000 refugees, most of whom were children; and we watched a twenty-four-year-old Christian man pull the body of his twenty-six-year-old brother, a worship leader, from the rubble."

Mission To El Higo, Mexico

God gave us a wonderful time visiting the children's home ministry in El Higo, Mexico. The name of the home is Casa Hogar De La Montana (which means home of the homeless in the mountains). It is located about 3 hours south of Laredo, Texas (which is a border town).

We learned that it is more of a foster home than an orphanage and all the children will remain there until they are 18. They currently have two houses. They are divided between the younger children (10 kids) and preteen and teenagers (14 kids). So they currently have 24 children, but some of them are from the two sets of indigenous parents that run the two houses. Their goal is to have 12 houses one day. It is truly a beautiful place that is snuggled in the Mexican mountains. I was told that the elevation is compared to Denver, Colorado.

We spent three days actually interacting with the leader of the ministry, Al Gatty and the family that oversees the ministry, Phillip and Rebbecca Askee and their two teenage daughters. The Askees are Americans who are from a town right outside of Dallas and they are a very sweet Christian family who have a desire not only to minister to the children, but an amazing desire to reach the village that is located next to their children's home.

The village next to the children's home is very poor. It probably has about 75-100 people who live in this village. Spiritually it is a very dark village and they are in desperate need of a true gospel presence. There is a lot of drunkenness and other kinds of sins that I would prefer not to mention.

Our purpose in going was to assess the possibility of starting a new church on the land of the children's home, but in order to reach the village of El Higo and other villages within the area.

Our mother church, Lakewood Baptist and Pastor Brent Wells are leading this effort and as a church planter asked me to go along to assess this possibility.

As the Lord would lead you please pray that God will give each of us wisdom and discernment as we continue the process of discussing with Al, Phillip, and Rebbecca about planting a church in El Higo, Mexico.

Thank you!
